If you have a horse with confirmed or suspected equine asthma among your patients, and the horse can be presented as a “pair” with a lung-healthy control horse, please contact us.
We will examine both horses free of charge and provide the results:
- General clinical examination including determination of weight and nutritional status
- Special clinical respiratory examination including rebreathing
- Blood count, arterial blood gas analysis
- Bronchoscopy under sedation
- Bronchoalveolar lavage with cytological examination according to routine diagnostics
The owners bear the costs for hospital accommodation (2-3 nights, €34.90/night/horse) and all treatments that are subsequently agreed. The horses are included in our study for the duration of the examination and are usually stabled for three days at the Equine Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Leipzig.
In addition to the above diagnostics, the following samples are taken:
- approximately 80 ml of blood (during the diagnostic blood sampling)
- Nasal swab (under sedation as part of the BAL)
If one of the horses proves unsuitable in the clinical examination, both horses are excluded from the trial. Further examinations can then be carried out at the owner's request for a fee.
If you have any questions or would like to refer horses to us, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your interest and your support!
